Christmas Eve Services at 5pm and 8pm!

Merry Be-Early Christmas!

We're done with Youth Group until January 9th (when we kick off with "New Years Mass Hangout!") but I still hope to see you on Christmas Eve!

Harbor Covenant is having two services, a 5pm that is more geared towards young families and an 8pm one that is more traditional. Both are candlelight services!

I'll be at both so bring your families because I'd love to see you and celebrate with you, the birth of our Lord and Savior!

-Jen

P.S. our Winter Retreat registration is out and can be found at church and at our website (www.hccfuel.com).

Off Campus Small Group Christmas Parties Tomorrow!

Both Girls and Guy groups will meet at the regular time (5:43-7:15pm) but at different homes and not at church!

The girls will be meeting at Allie's house:

It is one of the neighborhoods next to the last eastbound on-ramp to get over the Narrows Bridge.
You can buzz the White's when you get to the gate!

The girls will be bringing a Secret Santa gift (If purchased please less than $5).  Don't worry if you didn't have time to get one, we will have some extras.  Also bring some sprinkles or icing for cookie decorating.  And finally come hungry because there will be pizza!

Map from church to Allie's:

And the Guys will be at John's:

They live in a neighborhood that is past and across from Whitley Hills.

Guys will be having a White Elephant gift exchange (if you purchase anything, please nothing over $5).  And bring a snack to share.  We will have pizza and play a bunch of games!

Group Nite!

We will be finishing our two week series on The Life of Jesus.  Last time we talked about how he healed and this Wednesday we will talk about some of the miracles he preformed!

We'll meet like last week using the back Education Building doors (sorry for the construction confusion!) and will be meeting in room 101 in that building.  To find the correct doors, just drive to either side of our church to find the back gravel parking lot.  We'll have some lights running to help guide the students in!

We'll kick off the night like we always do, with a bunch of games before splitting into our guys and girls small groups.

High School Youth Group won't be meeting this Wednesday again, instead they are planning on spending this Saturday up in Seattle caring for the homeless!

Next week we will be meeting off campus for our small group Christmas Parties.  Info and directions will be handed out at youth group this week and posted here next week!

Tuesday, December 4, 2012

Christmas Partay in Room 101!

Wednesday we will be meeting to play some "Reindeer Games" and finish the night talking about the Christmas season and why it's a big deal.

We will meeting in the Education Building INSTEAD of the Worship Center!  Just drive to the back of the two story building (pardon our construction!) and once inside you won't be able to miss us!

Remember that we'll be meeting in 101 for this and next week.  Then on the 19th we will be meeting off campus (but during the same time) for our small group (guys and girls) Christmas Parties.  Info and directions will be passed out and posted here next week.

And as a heads up, our Winter Retreat to Camas Meadows is scheduled for February 1-3 so keep an eye peeled for the Registration form!

Group Nite! Jesus Heals

Has everyone bounced back from their turkey coma?  Great!

What does a man possessed by demons, a woman with an incurable illness and a young girl who was dead have in common?  Jesus healed them and the stories are told in the book of Mark in Chapter 5.  Wednesday night we'll kick off playing some games and then breaking into some smaller groups to go over the various ways that Jesus healed people.

So bring a friend, bring your Bible and let's dive in!

NO YG, T-Eve Service and Unofficial Movie Night!

There is NO Youth Group Tomorrow!

Because instead our church is having our annual Thanksgiving Eve Service from 7-8ish.  Come and bring your friends and families to a nice and short evening service where we look back on the year and find how thankful we can be because of how faithful God has been to us.

Afterwards we will continue a tradition that's been going on for over a decade, the Unofficial Movie Night!

It's called unofficial because we just tell everyone we know which movie we are going to and that's it.  We don't arrange rides or buy tickets for you, but we REALLY want you to come!  Every year we have between 70-100 people associated with our church all at the same movie, it's a blast.  We encourage you to invite your friends and families to come too!

The movie this year is, The Rise of the Guardians:

We're planning on going to the 8:40 showing!  You may want to pre-buy your tickets.

Poinsettias!

If you sold Poinsettias for our first Summer Mission Trip Fundraiser, then we need to know your totals!

If you turned them in at youth group, YEAH!

If you forgot, please text the total red and white to Jen immediately because we will be ordering them Thursday (11/15) morning.

Call Jen with any questions!

------------------------------------

Reminder that next week instead of Youth Group we have an All Church Thanksgiving Eve Service.  Students and friends and families are encouraged to come to service from 7-8pm.  Afterwards we encourage everyone to come to watch a movie together at Galaxy Theaters.  We will be seeing "Rise of the Guardians" after the service!  Though it is our "Unofficial Movie Night", so we won't be buying tickets or arranging rides for you so figure it out and make it happen!

Poinsettias and MASS HANGOUT!

Poinsettia forms need to be in by Youth Group THIS Wednesday!

We have been selling Poinsettias as our first fund raiser for our Summer Mission Trip to Gleanings for the Hungry.  Forms are on our website at www.hccfuel.com.

Please contact Jen with any questions about the Poinsettias.

---------------------------------

Also this Wednesday is our first Mass Hangout of the school year!  This night was designed for students to invite their friends.  It'll be a night of games and hangout time so that students could have a real easy way to invite a friend to youth group for the first time.  Our leaders will then also have a good chunk of time to catch up with their students lives and meet their friends.

Parents are encouraged to drive their kids friends to help eliminate any obstacles for students coming for the first time!

So who are you bringing?

---------------------------------

Next week there will be NO youth group, instead we will have our annual all church Thanksgiving Eve service.  It's a great service to bring the entire family, it will be an hour long and afterwards we encourage students and families to come to a movie with us at the local theater (we call it the "Unofficial Movie Night).  More info coming out soon!

1K Challenge!

For our second Youth Group of the year, we are going after the 1K Challenge!

Our summer mission trip to Yakima (The Yak) ended with Youthworks challenging us to find a way to serve not just during that one week in the summer, but ongoing back in our home town.  They are calling all the youthgroups that served at all 70 North American locations to brainstorm ideas of how they can help their communities.  The top 10 ideas will be rewarded up to $1000 to help jump start that idea.

So this Wednesday we will play some games and then start brainstorming ideas.  We'll come up with our top ideas to further look into and then vote for one in the following weeks.

Here are some links to previous groups ideas that have won:

http://www.reverbmagazine.com/category/1k-challenge/

See you there!

Youth group is on Wednesday nights for 6-8th graders from 5:43-7:15pm

High School follows from 7:30-9pm

PAC NITE XV!

It's back! Our annual Fall youth group kick-off is THIS Wednesday (9/19), are you ready?

Who are you inviting?  Who are you bringing?

For the last 15 years we've started our Middle School youth group by packing students into things!

How many students can fit into a hula hoop? In a fridge box? A car? On a couch? And of course our infamous Maytag Relay (and much more!).

Come for a ridiculous amount of fun and don't forget to bring your friends!

Our youth groups are every Wednesday from 5:43-7:15pm for current 6-8th graders.

This is a combined event (middle school and high school) but is also for whole families and open to the entire church!  We show you a few videos and hear from some students that went on these different summer camps and mission trips we took this summer, eat some dessert and hear about everything that will be happening this Fall!

So if you went on any of these trips, come to remember and share about them.  If you missed them, no worries!  This night is just as much for you so you can hear about what happened and get excited about the next trips coming out!

Yak Mission Trip Info and Forms!

We are leaving on our Yak Mission Trip THIS SUNDAY!  We will be commissioned during both 8:30 and 10:15am services.  Bring your bags to church that morning so we can get them ready to be packed in the vehicles.

Link to Dropbox folder of all the files and forms for our trip!

Inside will be a list of pdf files that can be downloaded and printed from home.  The main ones that students still need to get in are the Youthworks Release Form and Youthworks Youth Covenant Form.  We'll also need a photocopy of your insurance card.  Either scan one in and drop it off with the rest of your forms by Noon Friday or Scan them in and email/fax.  You could also take a picture of your insurance card with your phone and try sending that to Jen as well.

Also in that link are forms about our packing list and clothing policy.

The Clothing Policy form is basically reminding us to bring closed toed shoes for painting/running around with kids as well as avoiding tank tops and sleeveless shirts.  It also reminds us about avoiding distracting clothing either by how it's cut or what is printed on it.

Goodwill is also a great place to get one set of painting clothes if you don't own anything you wouldn't mind getting paint on.

On Sunday we will have a info sheet for parents detailing exactly where and when we will be during our week away as well as contact info for all the adults on our trip.

If you have any more questions about our mission trip to The Yak please contact Jen.

Brussel Sprouts and Yak Meeting!

Tonight Heather will take the reigns and give you a taste of  what a High School youth group night looks like.  The night is called Brussel Sprouts and after a few games and silliness, we will take a good look at a Bible passage to see what it says and how we can apply it to our everyday lives.

Also for those of you signed up for The Yak mission trip, our next meeting is THIS SUNDAY!!!  After church from 1-2:30pm.

Tuesday, May 8, 2012

Group Nite & Yak Meeting 5/20

Tomorrow we start our last Group Nite series!  Bring your friends as we follow up some games by breaking into our small groups and talk about Jesus.

What's the biggest question you'd like to ask Jesus?

How can our lives make a difference to all those around us?

We'll be looking into Matthew 5 to find out.  Can't wait to hear the cool discussions that can come out of those two questions.

All you Yak people!  We have our next mission meeting Sunday May 20 from 1-2:30!

Wednesday, May 2, 2012

IIT316 Tonight and Car Wash Tickets

Youth Group tonight is IIT316 (which stands for 2 Timothy 3:16).  It's a night where after a few games, we take a passage of the Bible and go through it line by line and really dig in and learn what is being said in context of the people being talked about as well as the culture they were in.  The hope is that students can learn that the Bible doesn't need to be scary and complicated, but understood and applied.  Not only that, but there are some crazy stories we get to talk about!  See you tonight!

For those of you going on our mission trip to Yakima (The Yak!) this summer, if you haven't picked up your car wash tickets, grab them tonight.  Also your support letters should be out already so if they're not, get on it!

If you are not going on our mission trip to Yakima and your family owns cars, consider buying car wash tickets from our students on Sundays or Wednesdays to help us raise the funds to go!  Thanks!

Mission Meeting Sunday 1-2:30pm

Just a reminder for those that are signed up for The Yak (our summer mission trip), our next meeting is tomorrow (4/29) from 1-2:30pm!

Contact Jen with any questions.

Tuesday, April 24, 2012

Group Nite!

Tomorrow we are back to our regular schedule (5:43-7:15pm)!

It'll be Group Nite so bring a friend and bring your Bible as we play some games and finish up our 2 part series on "Just Like Jesus" where we'll talk about what it looks like to represent Him where ever we are.

Parents, here are some questions you may want to consider asking your student afterwards:

  • How can being a fan of something (like a sports team) be similar to being a follower of Jesus?
  • Is it easy to represent Jesus everyday or just at church/youth group?  Why?
  • What can you do at school/neighborhood/home to represent Jesus better?

For Yak Mission Trip students:

Our next meeting is this Sunday from 1-2:30pm!  Our car wash fund raising tickets are also in so be thinking about who you'd like to sell them to.

Our Summer Camp Registrations are just around the corner!

Incoming 6th through INCOMING 8th should sign up for Camp Spalding!  Dates are: August 5-11!

Graduating 8th graders will be able to sign up for the High School Oasis trip July 26-30!

Change of Plans! (Still NO Youth Group Wednesday)

There is still NO Youth Group Wednesday (4/18) due to Spring Break.  But we are however having a No Way Day on Thursday.  Forms have been online about us Spelunking in the Ape Caves down at Mt. St. Helens but we won't be doing that anymore.  Due to the soggy weather, we've been told that the mile hike to and from the caves would probably be very miserable (and is in no way the "No Way" we were going for).

So instead we are planning on staying in the area with what we are calling "No Way Day: Quad Tag"!

We'll meet at the church at 9am (remember to eat some breakfast) and play some "tag" games starting with a car rally of sorts.  Then it's off to laser tag, then another car rally back to Gig Harbor and a finish with a game of Hoonting (think blow darts...and fun) back at HCC.  We should be done by 3pm.

Those that signed up for Spelunking are automatically signed up for the day (contact Jen if that is a problem).  Anyone else wanting to join us needs to contact Jen  due to limited car seats.

Cost is still $15

Pizza & Praise $3! and No Way Day!

Tomorrow is Pizza & Praise!  So bring a few bucks and come hungry.  We'll start the night in the Ed. Building sharing a pizza meal together and finishing the night praising our God!

Next week is Spring Break for the public schools so there will be NO Youth Group on the 18th!  Instead, we're having a "No Way Day" on Thursday (19th).  It'll be an all day thing where the middle school and high school youth groups will head down to Mt. Saint Helen's ape caves to do some spelunking!  Cost is $15 and as always, there are scholarships (www.bit.ly/hccscholarship).  Spots are limited, so get your forms in ASAP!

Forms can be found here (email), there (at youth group) and everywhere (our website).

Feel free to contact Jen at the church with any questions!  Also don't forget to make sure that your year long Medical Release Form is up to date!

Group Nite and Lots More!

Tomorrow starts a new two part Group Nite series called "Just Like Jesus"!  We'll meet in the Education (2 story) building and after some games, we'll break into smaller groups and talk about role models.  Who are some of yours?

Remember that Easter is THIS SUNDAY!  Our church has a low key Good Friday Service (on Friday of course!) at 7pm.  Our Sunday Morning Worship times are 8, 9:30 and 11am.  We'd love to see you and your family!

Next week (April 11th) is our Pizza & Praise night so come with $3 as we start by breaking bread (pizza) together and then finish the night with some worship to our God!

During Spring Break we're bringing back our No Way Day so be watching for sign ups!  Looks like we will be spelunking down near Mt. Saint Helens (Grades 6-12) Thursday April 19th!  More info to follow, but know that spots will be limited.

Parents - as we go through our new series, consider asking your student these questions as conversation starters on the way home:
  •     What would you expect to see in the life of someone who says that Jesus is their role model?
  •     How can we as a family make Jesus our role model in how we live?
  •     Who around you needs Jesus' love?  How can you (or we) love them?

Fort Wars!

Tomorrow is our crazy Fort Wars night!

Bring whatever supplies (your parents will let you bring) to build your 'typical' home fort (ie: sheets, cushions, rope, tape, cardboard, etc).  You may want to arrive a few minutes early and don't forget to BRING your friends!  You may want to ask your parents if they can give them a ride to youth group.

We'll spend the first part of the night building our forts in groups divided by grades.  Then we'll play a few rounds "warring" with each other using foam darts!  It'll be a night of silliness that you and your friends won't want to miss.

On a completely different note, Easter is NEXT Sunday (April 8)!  Worship times that morning are 8, 9:30 and 11am in case your or your friends family are looking for a place to go!

Our Spring Station Calendars are out as well!  Click here: www.bit.ly/hccspring2012 to see it online.  If you don't receive one this week in the mail, please contact Jen Easton at the church to make sure that we get you on our mailing list!

Group Nite and Yak Info!

This Wednesday we'll meet up for some games and then finish up our four part Group Nite series on "God's Big Story".

Next week we'll have our annual crazy Fort Wars night!  Come a bit early and bring whatever you can scrounge from home (HAVE PERMISSION FROM YOUR PARENTS!) that'll help make your grades fort the best ever (sheets, cushions, rope, tape, etc).  We'll spend the first part of the night building forts in different parts of the Worship Center and then spend the second half shooting foam darts at each other!  The more friends you bring, the better it'll be so be asking your parents if they can pick up and bring your friends too!

THIS SUNDAY will mark our first Yak Mission team meeting!  We'll meet after 2nd service from 1-2:30PM so make plans on eating lunch beforehand.  We'll discuss details about the trip, do some team building exercises and discuss upcoming fund raisers.

Relationship Status: It's Complicated

Last month was Valentines Day, otherwise known as "Singles Awareness Day."  Usually we have a youth group revolving around the subject of dating but with how our days fell it just didn't happen.

But don't be afeard!  We want to provide a safe place to talk and ask questions so tonight we'll play some games and then gather to talk about why dating is so hard in middle school and high school.  You'll also have a chance to ask questions from your cool leaders.

So bring a friend, bring a fun attitude and think of some questions!

Group Nite!

We continue our four week series on "God's Big Story".  We started by talking about Creation and how good everything was and then how Adam and Eve broke it!

And tonight after a few games we'll continue by talking about how God's fixing it.

-----------------------------------

If  you missed it last week, we had our annual Winter Dessert where we talked about our winter retreat and showed a highlight video.  The video is located here and the pictures are here.

Also the Registration for our Mission Trip to Yakima is available and can be downloaded here.  We had an info meeting on Sunday but if you still have any questions about the trip, PLEASE contact Jen at the church!  Half the spots are filled so don't delay!  We will have our first Team Meeting at the end of the month and will spend much of it going over our different Fund Raisers.

Winter Dessert Tonight @ 6:30!

The Winter Dessert is upon us!  Come check out what our Middle School and High School groups did this winter on their weekend retreats.

Bring your friends AND your family for some dessert and we'll show you some videos of our trips and hear from some students about them.

This isn't just for students that went on these trips either, if you missed them you have even more reason to see and hear what happened!  Also as an added bonus for those currently in 5th and 8th grade, you get to see the trips that you'll be able to attend this next year, so what are you waiting for?!  Oh, for it to be 6:30pm?  That's fine then.

To recap, tonight will be a combined Middle School and High School night from 6:30-8pm.  Friends and family are not only welcome, but are encouraged to come and see all that's been happening.  Next week we will return to our regular time (5:43-7:15pm) and continue with our Group Nite.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Our mission trip registration for The Yak is out and available at church!  (And will also be posted online shortly.)  This Sunday after 2nd service Jen will be having an informational meeting to answer any questions students and parents may have.  Sign-ups are limited so we will be going on a first come, first served basis.  After that there will be a waiting list so don't delay!

No Fuel Tomorrow! Come to the Ash Wed. Service

There will NOT be any youth group this week!

But please consider coming (and bringing your family) to our church's Ash Wednesday service from 6:30-7:30pm.

Ash Wednesday represents the first day of Lent which traditionally consists of a 40 day fast leading up to Easter. So come and join us as we start our journey to the cross together. And don't worry, you can still eat!

Next week, instead of our regular time, we will be meeting from 6:30-8pm for our annual Winter Dessert! Bring your friends and family to see all that happened at our middle school and high school winter retreats this year. Not to mention we'll have dessert!

Group Nite and Sweetheart Banquet Help Info!

Tonight we will be continuing our Group Nite on God's Big Story were two weeks ago we talked about Genesis 1 and Creation.  Tonight we will tackle Genesis 3 and the fall of man and what that means for us.

Bring a Bible, bring a friend and be ready to play some games in Room 101 in the Education Building and dig into the word a bit!

Sweetheart Banquet!

THIS Friday is also our annual fundraising Sweetheart Banquet where adult couples from church and the community come for a dinner and a show (The Shy Boys!).  Students planning on going to our Yak Mission Trip, High School Chic and Senior Rwanda Mission Trip should come out to serve and raise money for their trips.

Our Yak trip is from July 8-14 and Registration will be available tonight.

This is one of a handful of fundraisers we will be doing throughout the year so don't miss it!  Students should arrive at 4:30pm THIS Friday and if able, wearing a white top and black bottoms (a red bow, tie, etc is great too).  The evening will end at 9pm and students will then help cleanup and quickly tear down tables and decorations.  If a student can't make it during that time or just not for the whole time, have them contact Jen at church and just let him know so that we can arrange a way for them to participate.

Retreat Recap!

We just got back this weekend from our Camas Meadows in 3D Winter Retreat!  So you know what that means, a night to recap what happened and what we learned.  Like how we are baby ducklings, sick zebras and sea turtles!  And lets not forget that we should never Evil Knievel into a Paul Bunyon!

This is a night to share and reflect a bit for those who went but more importantly, an opportunity for those that couldn't make it, to help them get a taste of what the trip was like.

So come one come all, play some games with us and find out what God was showing and telling over at Camas Meadows this year.

Also mark your calendars for Leap Day (Feb. 29) where we will be having our annual Winter Dessert to do this for our friends and family (as well as see what the high schoolers did on their winter retreat).

Also our Sweetheart Banquet is on Feb. 17 this year!  Parents, please consider buying tickets and inviting friends to this evening out hosted by our students as a mission trip fundraiser.  Great food, fun and entertainment and all going to a great cause.  Students thinking about going on our mission trip to The Yak should also mark their calendars and consider helping out that night.  More details to follow.

No Fuel!

If you haven't looked outside yet, Youth Group is cancelled tonight.  So go frolic in the snow and then rush inside for some hot chocolate.

I hired this guy to clear our driveway:
He's pretty good, works for tuna.

Stay safe, stay warm and use this time to play with your family.

Youth Group Tomorrow?

So we supposedly have Snowmageddon arriving but if my yard still looks like this tomorrow:
Then I think we'll still meet at church at our normal time for some hangout and some games and maybe even some hot chocolate.  We'll reschedule our first Group Nite of the year for February 1st.

But if you look outside and see this:
Then you should probably stay home and play monopoly with your family.  Or go sledding.

Keep checking back here (www.hccfuel.com) or call the church office  for any updates.

Remember that our Winter Retreat (Feb. 3-5) is just around the corner so get your registration in!  If you have any questions or would like more info about scholarships, you can find the forms on our website (www.hccfuel.com) and/or contact Jen at church.

Mass Hangout and Winter Retreat!

The first Mass Hangout of the year is tomorrow!  Come and bring a friend to simply hang out and play some games.  Mass Hangout was started so that students would have a very easy night to invite friends, especially those that haven't come before.  It's a night of some down time to catch up with each other and where your cool leaders can meet your friends as well as some big games to have a ton of fun with!

So who are you bringing?

Parents:  Your student inviting a friend is only the first hurdle, the second is getting that friend to physically come!  And you can help by offering to drive them!  This doesn't even need to necessarily add more work for you, maybe ask if the other family could pick them up (after 7:15pm).

Also remember that you don't have much time left to sign up for our winter retreat coming up this Feb. 3-5!  Registration, Medical Release (only need to fill out once a school year) and Scholarship forms are available at our website (www.hccfuel.com) and at the church outside of the youth pod (room 106).
