X-Mas X-travaganza!
Have some sweet ugly Christmas-ware? Sweaters? Vests? Hats?...Even heard someone wanting to bring their Christmas pants (in all honesty, kinda scared about that one!). Then wear them tomorrow as we hold a Christmas Competition! Don't have one? Come anyway to check out my ugly sweater...it's glorious.
We'll play some Reindeer Games and talk about why Christmas is such a big deal. So don't miss it and bring your friends!
Next week will be our small group Christmas parties and they will all be off campus! We'll post all the details including time and directions next week so be sure to check back!

Group Nite and Poinsettias
Tomorrow we'll wrap up our 3 week Group Nite series on the Bible by playing some games and talking about the benefits of memorizing Scripture.
For Parents, good questions to ask your students:
For Parents, good questions to ask your students:
- How mighte memorizing verses from the bible help you in everyday situations?
- If we didn't have the Bible, how would we learn about God and his desires for our lives? Would that even be possible?
If you sold Poinsettias for our Summer Mission Trip fund raiser, they will be available to be picked up This Thursday afternoon and all day Friday. Please make arrangements to pick them up and deliver them this weekend. Please make sure that you keep them out of the cold (left on someone's doorstep or in the car in the garage overnight) so as to keep them from wilting too early. There may be an opportunity to sell more this weekend so if you are interested, please contact Jen!
Remember that our Winter Retreat forms are out and available at youth group, in the Ed. Building at the church and on our website: www.hccfuel.com! Forms turned in BEFORE the end of the year get a discount! And remember, scholarships are always available!
Next week (12/7) will be a fun youth group of Christmas themed games and a talk about what Easter has to do with Christmas! Then our last youth group of the year will be Dec. 14 and they will be Small Group Christmas Parties! These will be the same small groups we've been meeting in during our Group Nites (6-7th grade girls, 8th grade girls, all guys). Where and when will be posted the next two weeks so be sure to check back!

Thanksgiving Eve and Unofficial Movie Night
Our Thanksgiving Eve Service is tomorrow from 7-8pm-ish, so we WON'T have our regular Youth Group Night but encourage all our students and their families to come to the service instead! It's a cool, laid back service where we take a moment to reflect on what we can be thankful for this past year.
Afterwards there's been a 10+ year tradition called the "Unofficial Movie Night" where a bunch of us all head to a movie at Galaxy Theaters together. It's called "Unofficial" because we won't buy your ticket (which we recommend you do before going to the service) or give everyone rides from service. But we'd be thrilled if you came and hung out with us! There's nothing like going to a movie with 80+ people made up of our Middle School and High School students and their friends and family, not to mention former students back on break!

Turn Poinsettia Forms In Sunday!
Your Poinsettia Mission Trip Fundraiser forms need to be turned in Sunday!
If you can't get them in the drop box (outside Room 106 in the Ed. Building) while the church is open, contact Jen and let him know that you'll be dropping them into the church mailbox.
The Poinsettia Fund Raiser is one of a handful of fund raisers that we will be doing for our mission trip to 'The Yak' this summer. Registration for this mission trip will come out soon. Dates are on our online calendar (found on the bottom of our website: www.hccfuel.com) and will be from July 8-14.
Poinsettias will be delivered to the church, Friday Dec. 2nd. Please make arrangements to pick up the ones you sold so that you can deliver them that weekend.
Please contact Jen with any questions.
Also remember that there will be NO YOUTH GROUP this Wednesday due to our church's Thanksgiving Eve Service from 7-8pm. We do however encourage all our students to come to this laid back service and bring their friends and family. This short service is an opportunity for us to gather together to reflect over the past year and thank God for how he has been present in our lives.
After the service many Middle School, High School and even former students (and their friends and families) are known to go to the family friendly movie at Galaxy. We call it the "Unofficial Movie Night" because we don't buy your tickets or arrange rides for anyone. Though we'd be super excited to see you there! This 10+ year tradition usually has 80+ people connected to HCC attend the same movie together! We'll post Monday night which movie we're planning on going to and we recommend buying your tickets before the service starts.

Group Night and Winter Retreat Registration!
This Wednesday after some games we'll continue week two of our new Group Nite Series on the Bible! This week we simply talk about how to navigate the Bible and why it's important for us to do so if we call ourselves Christians.
Question suggestions for Parents:
Also remember that this is the last week to turn sell poinsettias as a fund raiser for our mission trip this summer to Yakima! Forms can be found at the church and need to be put in the youth dropbox or the church mailbox by THIS SUNDAY. Any Poinsettias you sell you'll need to pick up from the church on Dec. 2 to deliver. Mission Trip Registration will be out later this month and the trip dates are July 8-14. Please contact Jen with any questions. This is the first of a handful of fundraisers we will be doing all year long.
Question suggestions for Parents:
- Which parts of the Bible are easiest for you to read? Which ones most difficult? Why?
- What was the most interesting thing you learned about the Bible today?
- Why is it important for us to try to do what the Bible says?
Winter Retreat Registration is out! Consider coming out to Camas Meadows with us the first weekend of February! Click here for the Registration. Save money by turning it in before the end of the year! And as always, scholarships are available! Those forms can be found on the right hand side of our website at www.hccfuel.com .

Group Nite IV!
Tomorrow we start a new three week (Nov. 2, 16 and 30) series focused on the Bible. After a few games we will talk about foundational topics—in other words, learning facts about the Bible. We'll focus on 2 Timothy 3:14-17, which encourages us to recognize and remember that the Bible is inspired by God, helps us know what is right and what is wrong, and is used to prepare and equip us to do good things.
Parents:
I encourage you to spend time talking with your student about this week’s lesson. Here are some questions you might want to ask:
•If you could sit with God over lunch at your favorite fast food restaurant,
what would you ask? What would you like to know about God?
•What role do you believe the Bible plays in the lives of people who
follow Jesus?
•How might your life look different if you “leaned” more on the truths you
find in the Bible?
Next week will be our first "Mass Hangout" of the year! Mass Hangout is a night were all we do is play games and hang out together. It's set up to be a very easy night to invite friends and give our youth leaders time to play and talk with our students and their friends. So start thinking about who you are going to bring!

Fall Retreat Update!
Just got an update from heather and the students are doing great!
Lots of fun and games, some horseback riding and rock wall climbing as well.
This is the largest group of students we've ever taken to the Thunder Fall Retreat and it's also the largest one with a capacity 340 students and leaders attending!
That kind of crazy excitement is a lot of fun and I can't wait to hear the stories and see the pictures during this Wednesdays Retreat Recap!
They've had a long day and will be back at HCC by about 1pm Sunday!

Fall Retreat and Group Nite III and Eli Easton
Here's our Fall Retreat Packing List:
And click here for a link to the packing list.
If you're going, please remember to bring a packed dinner! Also please note the updated extra activities you can sign up for (these are just the ones that cost extra - plenty of other stuff to do there!).
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
As for today, we will be finishing our first Group Series with our third lesson on I-dentity. Previous group nites have been on "Who I Am" and "Who I'm Not" and tonight we'll talk about "What I've Been Created to do."
We'll start in the Sanctuary and after our welcome and a few games, we'll break into these groups: 6-7th grade girls, 8th grade girls and all guys.
For Parents -
If you'd like to discuss this lesson with your student, here are some questions to consider asking:
- How can serving other people help you grow as a follower of Jesus?
- Tell me about a time when you made a positive difference in someone else’s life. How did that experience affect you?
- What do you think are some unique things that you contribute to your small group, youth group, or church?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
And some more pictures of Jen and Rachel's newborn son, Eli and his "I don't know if I like this car seat" look, are on the way!
Eli James was born last Thursday (13th) at 11:59pm. He has 10 fingers, 10 toes, 2 proud parents and a pretty cute face!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Registration for our summer mission trip to Yakima ("The Yak") available next month so please keep your eyes out for it! Our first fund raiser will be the first two weeks of November selling Poinsettias so start thinking about family, neighbors, and businesses that might buy them!

Group Nite II
Tonight we're continuing our Group Nite series about Identity. Every other week we'll meet at our regular time (5:43-7:15pm) but after playing some games we'll break into smaller groups and go through this Bible Study together! Two weeks ago we talked about what it meant to find our identity through Jesus Christ and that a friendship with Him is the only "hat" God wants us to wear because it should affect every part of our lives. Today we're going to be looking at three things God wants us to avoid to help us lead a better life. Those choices are: Don't let other people's opinions define you, don't focus on just yourself, and don't focus on other people's appearances.
After our welcome and a few games, we'll break into these groups: 6-7th grade girls, 8th grade girls and all guys. We'll start in the Sanctuary but to help High School set up for their Lip Sync night, we'll end in room 101 in the Education Building.
For Parents -
If you'd like to discuss this lesson with your student, here are some questions to consider asking:
- Why does the Bible say that trying to win people's approval can create problems?
- What are some of the signs of a person who lives selfishly? What are some of the signs of a person who lives selflessly?
- Think about the last time you were judged or evaluated based on how you looked or dressed or acted. How did you feel? What did you learn from this experience?
We are still accepting registration for our Fall Retreat to Camp of the Cascades later this month (Oct. 21-23). Registration can be picked up at church or downloaded from our website (hccfuel.com). Scholarships are also always available.
We are also going to have registration for our summer mission trip to Yakima ("The Yak") available next month so please keep your eyes out for it! Our first fund raiser will be the first two weeks of November selling Poinsettias so start thinking about family, neighbors, and businesses that might buy them!

Staff Q&A Night!
Come tomorrow night for our annual Staff Q&A Night! We've been collecting your questions over the last few weeks and we'll spend the evening playing games and hearing our awesome volunteers try to answer all of them!
So bring a friend and come ready for games and a chance to learn more about your leaders!
Also our Fall Retreat is next month (Oct. 21-23) and you can save $15 if you get your registration form (Click here for link) in by Oct. 5th! Remember that we always have scholarships available (Click here) and everyone needs to have a Medical Release Form (Here) filled out which is good for all our trips through this school year.
All these links are also permanently posted on the right hand side of our website www.hccfuel.com.

Group Nite I
Tonight we'll start off a new type of night for us called Group Nite. Every other week we'll meet at our regular time (5:43-7:15pm) but after playing some games we'll break into smaller groups and go through Bible Studies together!
We'll start by breaking into these groups: 6-7th grade girls, 8th grade girls and all guys. If groups get too large (we hope we have this "problem"!) we'll consider breaking them down even more.
Our first series is on Identity and tonight we'll cover who we are. We'll talk about the different pressures students feel to act a certain way to certain groups they are around and what it would look like if we simply were who God wants us to be to all of them instead.
For Parents -
If you'd like to discuss this lesson with your student, here are some questions to consider asking:
- We talked about the different "hats" we wear in life. What are some hats they see themselves as wearing? What are some hats you as a parent/adult wear?
- We encourage them to see that God wants us to wear one hat everywhere we go - a follower of Jesus. What might it mean to wear that "hat" every day? How would life look different?

Pac Nite XIV!
It's back! Our annual Fall youth group kick-off is coming, are you ready? Who are you inviting?
For the last 13 years we've started our Middle School youth group by packing students into things!
How many students can fit into a hula hoop? In a fridge box? In a Worship Search Committee meeting? On a couch? And of course our infamous Maytag Relay (and much more!).
Come for a ridiculous amount of fun and don't forget to bring your friends!
Our youth groups are every Wednesday from 5:43-7:15pm for current 6-8th graders.

Summer Dessert THIS WEDNESDAY! 6:30-830
Our annual Summer Dessert is a mere day away!
Come bring your family and friends as we eat some sweets and see and hear what happened on all our trips this summer.
We'll see videos of the middle school and high school summer camps and mission trips as well as hear stories from students.
It's always great to be able to look back at the busy summer and see what God was doing all around us!
And you'll also get to hear about all the happenings this Fall - like Pac Nite next week!
P.S. We didn't break a World Record last week but we thank everyone for their help in laying down a couple thousand feet of pennies! Fun was had and we learned a ton in case we decide to try it again next year.

Busy Weekend and Rainiers Game!
Friday @6:30pm we have Tony Campolo coming to speak at HCC for a Dessert and Fundraiser!
Sunday is our 'CMJ Sunday' (Compassion, Mercy, Justice) where we will NOT be meeting for a church service but instead be 'church serving' by doing community service projects. You can sign up for one online (at www.harborcovenant.org) or by clicking here. If you don't know what to sign up for, just meet me at HCC at 9am and come help me clean up scotch broom at Ken Leo Marvin Park behind QFC! (Please bring work gloves and some yard tools!)
And MONDAY!
If you want to go, PLEASE LET JEN/HEATHER/MIKE know so that we can have enough tickets bought and seats on the bus to get you there and back!
We'll be meeting at the church at 5pm. Tickets will cost $15 per student and will include a hot dog, chips and soda (other family members only $10).
This is the game where we cheer on the OPPOSING teams Right Fielder from the Tucson Padres! Will it be Chris Denorfia? Matt Clark? Bobby Kielty? Who knows (It'll probably be Bobby)? We won't until we get there, the only thing we do know is that that guy is the most amazing player EVER!
So if you want to have the most fun ever at a baseball game, grab your friends and family and come out to the game with us!
Bring a friend, bring your family, bring a jacket and don't forget to contact us by email or phone to make sure your on our list!

Penny World Record Postponed - Kickball Ensues!
Due to a mix up with the bank, we will NOT be attempting to break our Penny World Record this afternoon.
But since we were planning on meeting at Sehmel Park anyway, we've switched to renting the Tennis Courts to Renting a ballfield for Kickball!
Everyone you know is invited! Middle School, High School, families, if you got legs and can attempt to kick a ball, come out from 3-5pm at the 3rd Ball field at Sehmel Park.

TRIKE RACE!!!
It's here! This Wednesday is our 13th Annual Trike Race - and by the looks of it...rain is more likely than shine (so dress accordingly!).
Make sure you bring a friend and know what theme your group is going for.
Don't be late, especially if your team still needs to put its finishing touches on your trike!
For those of you new to the Trike Race, each of the 4 teams pick a theme, build a trike and race them around the church property completing different activities at stations all around the course.
Much fun will be had and then we'll finish off the school year next week with a combined (middle school and high school) youth group from 6-8pm.
Monday, May 23, 2011
Trike Building Small Groups!
This Wednesday we will continue meeting with at the church but in our Small Groups:
6&7 Grade Girls w/Lauren and Ashley
8 Grade Girls w/Rachel and Julie
6 Grade Guys w/Jen, John, Blake and Jacob
7&8 grade Guys w/Richard, Brad and Spencer
Your goal will be to have you and all your friends try to start/finish building your trike for the Trike Race the following week (6/1)! Come ready to build and finishing the details of your theme.
We will also be having a Parent Night for Incoming 6th Graders from 5:30-7:30pm. This will be a time for parents to hear about the upcoming summer hangouts and camps as well as what youth group will look like in the Fall. We'll also talk about trying to understand what Middle School students are going through and how they can help. For more information, please contact Jen Easton. And remember, this is a time for the Parents, not the incoming 6th grader (your time will be this summer!).

For Clarification our Parent Night for Incoming 6th Graders will be next Wednesday (May 25th) from 5:30-7:30.
If you are the parent of an incoming 6th grader, then this night is for you. Jen
Easton and Mike Stelle will help you wade into the waters of middle school by discussing the wonderful realities of adolescent development as well as introducing you to the Middle School Ministry at Harbor Covenant. As part of this night you will have the opportunity to sit in on part of a middle school youth group and see it in action! If you have any questions about this night (example –“Is my current 5th graders supposed to come to this?” answer – “No…this is just for you") please do not hesitate to call.
Monday, May 16, 2011
Trikegate Party!
That's right, our annual Trike Race is only a few weeks away! This Wednesday we will be breaking up into our 4 teams and deciding what theme you'll be going for and what you will make it out of.
For those of you new to the Trike Race, it'll be the 14th one we've done here at HCC! At the end of every year, our small groups build a trike to race around a course at church. It's a ton of fun so get your friends involved! The groups this year will be 6th grade guys, 7-8th grade guys, 6-7th grade girls and 8th grade girls.
Wednesday will be mostly a brainstorming night but if you have props for themes or something to build off of, bring them! In previous years we've had trikes built out of trash cans, lawn mowers, shopping carts, boogie boards, baby strollers, wheel chairs...even trikes! Get creative and get down here this Wednesday!
Our summer camp forms for Camp Spalding our out! Spots are limited so get them in!
We're also having a parent night for those parents with incoming 6th graders. Don't miss it! If you have any questions please get a hold of Jen or Mike at the church.

Daylight Savings!
Just a reminder that you need to "Spring Forward" and set your clocks ahead an hour tonight!
I know, it's sad we loose an hour of sleep but just think-an extra hour of sunlight in the evenings!...Course the sun would need to be out...Yeah you're right this stinks.
Either way, set your clocks before you go to bed so you don't wake up late for church!
Monday, March 7, 2011
Ash Wednesday!
There will be NO Youth Group for either Middle School or High School THIS Wednesday because...
Our church will be having an Ash Wednesday Service from 7-8pm and we want all our students (and their family/friends) to come to this instead!
Ash Wednesday starts off the 40 days of Lent that lead up to Easter. It will be a very reflective time and a great way to start preparing ourselves for Easter.

On Sunday from 2-3:15pm we will be having our second Gleanings Mission Team Meeting! If you haven't sent off your support letters, get it done! Also remember to turn in your Gleanings permission slips.

A Snack but NO dinner will be provided Friday night so please bring a sack dinner for the road!
Now What Not To Bring:
Personal Electronic Devices like mp3/iPods/gaming (things that use headphones) due to them being Anti-Social. MASS HANGOUT!!!
Mass Hangout THIS Wednesday! Which friends are you inviting? Is your family able to give them a ride?
What?! You don't know? Well ask them and find out! Don't worry, I'll wait....
...
...
...
... Sweet, they can? Awesome.
Don't forget that Winter Retreat forms are due so get them in if you are planning on going! And if money is the reason why you can't go, grab a scholarship form and talk to Jen (so he can tell you how excited that you are going!). You won't want to miss this trip!
Also any parents that would like an excuse to spend the weekend in Leavenworth, Cashmere or Wenatchee while their kids are having an awesome time at the retreat (Feb. 4-6) and would like their gas comped (for transporting students...) please let Jen know!
And finally, this Friday is another "Chill" at Chapel Hill! This all area middle school event is a must so we'll see you there!
